Webinar: Plate Bone Grafting: When, Where and How
Tuesday, 9 February 2027
19:00-20:00 GMT
Learning Objectives:
- Explain the biological and mechanical principles of plate, or shell bone grafting including stability, space maintenance, vascular access and tension free closure.
- Compare the traditional autogenous Khoury plate technique with an allogenic cortical plate approach, including the different biological, procedural and patient-centred considerations.
- Identify defects and patient factors that may favour an allogenic plate, particularly localised one-wall buccal defects requiring a rigid support, limited or unsuitable donor sites, or refusal of autogenous plate harvesting.
- Describe the clinical workflow: hydration, thinning, shaping, stable fixation, positioning, particulate grafting and soft tissue closure.
- Discuss the advantages, limitations and complications of this approach and critically interpret integration, remodelling and resorption observed in clinical follow-up.
